Anchored on the working waterfront at Driscoll’s Wharf in Point Loma, TunaVille Market and Grocery is a hub for all things seafood. Tommy Gomes (pictured), a former commercial tuna fisherman and now prominent local fishmonger who hosts The Fishmonger television series on the Outdoor Channel, runs the place (along with Mitch Conniff of Mitch’s Seafood).
Gomes, a longtime champion of sustainable seafood, works directly with a fishing fleet that docks in front of the market to stock his seafood counter with fresh fillets, whole fish, and shellfish harvested from the shores of San Diego and the waters off Baja.
TunaVille also offers an array of prepared foods and pantry items, from ceviche and Portuguese tuna salad to fish stock and fancy tinned seafood from around the globe. Gomes and his team are always innovating with their fresh catches, smoking sausages made with a mix of ground pork and thresher shark, and dry-aging and curing bluefin tuna loins and swordfish bellies for a seafood spin on charcuterie. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
