Ford’s F-150 pickup has been America’s top-selling vehicle yearly since the Reagan administration. As gas prices recently soared, F-150 owners might have been displeased with their trucks’ thirst. But now Ford has a better idea, to quote its 1960s slogan.
An extensive redo of the F-150 for 2021 included a hybrid version—PowerBoost—that pairs a turbocharged V6 engine with an electric motor. The powertrain produces 430 hp and an eye-popping 570 lb-ft of torque, enabling a tow rating of 12,700 pounds. Equally exciting is the stellar fuel economy for a full-size pickup—24 mpg in combined driving.
